Families at Mizunara
Mizunara Chalet is an excellent choice for families with children. Arranged over three floors, it provides plenty of room for kids to play around in, while the bunk bedroom can comfortably sleep six.
Built across various levels connected by staircases, the chalet may not be infant or toddler-friendly.
Young adults may lay claim to the lounge which has a large flat-screen TV and a PlayStation, keeping them occupied when the weather or the mood calls for a quiet day in.
Not that there will be much time for boredom, of course. Hirafu and the Niseko area are an extraordinary playground for the whole family.
During winter, Niseko Base Snowsports offers classes for children aged three and older, while the quieter ski resort of Hanazono is a good option for little ones who are still learning the ropes.
Winter camps such as Edventure provide children aged 4-14 a wonderful all-round snow experience which teaches them skills like crafting, backcountry exploring, snow cave building and avalanche awareness.
Other year-round activities for children and adults include cultural experiences such as tea ceremony demonstrations, sushi making lessons and traditional drumming lessons.
The popular indoor pool at Alpen Hotel Niseko provides a great day out for the whole family, including a child-friendly ‘onsen’ upstairs.
Meanwhile, the NAC adventure park is perfect for young explorers during summer, offering family rafting and treetop climbing, as well as night-time forest walks specifically designed for kids.
